Lightening

The sky illuminates in pulses-

vital signs of summer.

I was born a thunderstorm woman.

I feel it now as much as ever.

dayver244 asked: Well my neighbor is having alot of issues and his parents are having a real hard time dealing with it. He is getting worse as the days go on and I thought that maybe since you have been in upward bound and are so good at helping kids that you could talk to them and maybe help them with there issue. Maybe just some advise. He is only 12 and they are worried he is going down the wrong path.

A big part of helping kids is building a relationship with them, and not lecturing, but helping them to find their own way to the decisions that are best for them. That said, sometimes you just have to set up clear rules/consequences, and follow through. It’s possible that you could be the person to help him find his way, if he’s anti-authority figure then his parents might have a harder time with it. Of course they shouldn’t give up hope either, but it’s always good to have a support network. The saying “it takes a village to raise a child” doesn’t exist without reason :)

dayver244 asked: I know someone that could use help from a wonderful person as yourself...

I just got that you sent this… who needs help? Do they still need help?

What Really Matters

awakenourworld:

“People without homes don’t care if your teeth are white.
Children forced to fight in war don’t care if you’re skinny.
Girls sold into the sex industry don’t care if your skin is tan.
People dying of hunger and disease don’t care what you look like.
You can’t make a difference in the world by being attractive.
Stop looking in the mirror. Start looking out the window.”

[An image of a white person holding a sign that reads “Sexual Assault Prevention Tips”. This is followed by a list numbered 1-10.
“1. Don’t put drugs in people’s drink in order to control their behavior.
2. When you see someone walking by themselves, leave them alone!
3. If you pull over to help someone with car problems, remember not to assault them!
4. NEVER open an unlocked car door or window uninvited.
5. If you are in an elevator and someone else gets in, DON’T ASSAULT THEM!
6. USE THE BUDDY SYSTEM! If you are not able to stop yourself from assaulting people, ask a friend to stay with you while you are in public.
7. Always be honest with people! Don’t pretend to be a caring friend in order to gain the trust of someone you want to assault. Consider telling them you plan to assault them. If you don’t communicate your intentions, the other person may take that as a sign that you do not plan to rape them.
8. Don’t forget: you can’t have sex with someone unless they are awake!
9. Carry a whistle! If you’re worried you might assault someone “accidentally” you can hand it to the person you’re with so they can blow it if you do.
10. Don’t assault people”]
